Palestine, books, schools.

League of Nations mandate to establish Jewish national home in Palestine includes the following:

1.An appropriate Jewish agency ...assist and take part in the development of the country.(art4)

2.close settlement by Jews on the land, including State lands and waste lands not required for public purposes.(art6)

Now, after 100 years after mandate and more than 100 years of Jewish development for Palestine, these objective are successfully achieved:

  1. Israel is a successful country - one of world leaders in science and technology
  2. Population has grown, including Palestinian Arabs increased  from appoximately 300 thousands before Zionism to appoximately 14 Mio ( incl. 2mio within so called 'green line' )
  3. Israel is a popular turistic destination, people of many nationlities incl. Arabs are happy to get Israel citizenship.
  4. Many other successes and achievements.

Does it impress antisemites, Israel boycotters or other members of 'israel critic' society? Surely not!!!

If you prepare to your school exams with AKAD book GS 512(9783715536835) or any other, please consider the following questions:

Nahost und AfrikaGeschichte. Die Welt auf dem Weg ins 21. Jahrhundert 2/3. AKAD GS 512

1. Does your book mention League of Nations mandate to Palestine and other mandate? If yes, in which terms?

2. Does your book mention Israel only in negative content, making a point that Israel/Zionism is a source of problem for Palestine? In comparison to other lands?

3. Does your book blame someone particular for conflict and 'problems'? Who does your book blame:

League of Nations / United Nations?
Great Britain?
Ottomans or Turks?
Arabs?
Jews?
Zionists as Jews and non-Jews?
USA or USSR?
German Nazi and European antisemites?

4. What is the blame is about?

5. Do you see your book balanced or presenting only anti-Israel set of arguments? Can this help growing anti-Semitism in Europe?

6. Do you think text of your book should be in open access and examined by specialists in antisemitism and general public for possible propagada and poor education quality?

Palestine, Education, schools.

Right of Israel to exist is still a discussion point unfortunately. There are 3 major views of  "Israel critic":

1. Israel creation was fully legitimate and good. As many Arabs are living in former mandate territory, there should be 2 states for 2 people. Israel should meet internationally desired borders, so called ' green line'. Main critic is that Israel is not giving up Jerusalem and some land in Judea and Samaria. It assumes if Israel does so, there will be a solution = peace.

2. Israel creation was not legitimate and/or unjust to Palestinian Arabs. ''Zionists" are guilty and to be blamed, but as Israel is already existing, 2 state solution is practical way to solve the conflict. Palestinian Arabs have right to "resistance".

3. Israel creation was criminal and Israel should not exist. Palestinian Arabs have right to "resistance".

Most interesting example was a statement of Helen Thomas.

If you prepare to your history exams with AKAD book GS512 or any other book, please ask yourself the following questions.

1. If your textbook make a point that legality of creation of State of Israel is doubtful and/or was act of injustice.
Will student understand the book in a way that Israel should not exist?

2. Or is you book only doubts a division of land and borders?

3. Does your book similarly question borders or existance of other states in the region - Lebanon, Jordan, Syria? When these states were createf?

4. Can you conclude from your book that Jewish people have no rights to self-determination because they were minority (in every country)? Should some land belong to someone on the basis of percent population at any particular time point? Do people migrate at all?

5. Have state of Palestine ever existed before and what was the border of it?

6. If you think that your school book is simply unbalanced, or fail some logic, what could be reason for it ?

7. Do you think it is good that your book is reviewed by other historians and experts in antisemitism?

Palestine, anti-Semitism and school education.

EU working definition of anti-Semitism includes the following examples ''of the ways in which antisemitism manifests itself with regard to the State of Israel taking into account the overall context could include:
  • Denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g., by claiming that the existence of a State of Israel is a racist endeavor.
  • Applying double standards by requiring of it a behavior not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation.''

If you prepare to your history exams with AKAD book GS512 or any other book, please ask yourself the following questions.

1. Is there any particular blame over middle-east conflicts and 'problems in Palestine'? Who is blamed? Is this blame somehow emotionally charged? Or not?

2. Do you think your book doubts legal right of State of Israel to exist? Does it make a point that creation of Israel was wrong or doubtful?

3. What is written about right if Jewish people for self-determination? If anything.

4. Do you think connection of Jewish people to Palestine and Jewish history in is neglected?

5. Do you have a feel that terror against Israel is somehow rationalized in your book or not?

6. If you think that your school book is simply unbalanced, or fail some logic, what could be reason for it ?

7. Do you think it is good that your book is reviewed by other historians and experts in antisemitism?

Palestine, logic and schoolbooks

If 'B' is after 'A', it is not necessary because of 'A'.
If 'D' is after 'A', 'B','C', it is strange to write that 'D' happens after 'B' , especially if 'D' is something not good. There might be an intent to drive someone to a non-logical conclusion that bad 'D' would not have happened because of 'B'.

Let us have an example.

'A' - Ottoman Empire is defeated and land is split into different 'Mandate' lands: Syria, Palestine, Mesopotamia etc. League of Nations gives mandate to Great Britain to establish National Home for Jewish people in palestine mandate land, to settle and develope the land with a help of Jewish people. (Which is successfully achieved now). Britain gives about 80% of land to Hashemites, Transjordan is formed.

'B' - after revolts and military unrests, United Nations recommends to split the rest of mandate land and form 2 states - one for Jews, other for Arabs. British power is ended and State of Israel declares it's indpendence.

'C' Arab states declare their intention to destroy Israel and push Jews into the see and attack Israel. Palestinian state is not formed despite land is occupied by Arab countries.

'D' - year of military conflicts and a peace process.

If the book or article you read states that military conflicts in 'Palestine' started in 1948 AFTER creation of State of Israel, this is not only factually wrong, it also fails logic and moral ground. It would be more logical to assume that military conflicts started after Arab countries attacked Israel, or may be tell student of League of Nation mandate and Balfour declaration...

If you are preparing to your history exams, please read your book carefully, see if Israel and Jews are blamed on their existence and denied history and right to self-determination.

If you prepare to your exam with AKAD book GS 512(9783715536835) , please check logic applied in this book? Think why book is written this way and if there is a particul blames or libels in the text.
